"Ultimate Disc" refers to the flying discs that are used in Ultimate games, previously known as "Ultimate Frisbee" now refered to as just simply "Ultimate". This flying disc is used to be a Frisbee disc developed by Wham-O. The most common ultimate disc now used is the Discraft Ultra-Star.
The difference between the Ultra-Star ultimate disc and the Frisbee ulitmate disc can seem subtle at first but in reality they are quite different. The slightest difference in an ultimate disc can create the largest difference when throwing one on an ultimate field. One example is the weight distribution in the disc. The more and ultimate disc's weight is distributed to the outer rim of the disc the more difficult it is to control and the steeper the drop will be at the end of the disc's flight. You'll notice when throwing a Frisbee disc that the fall is much greater than an Ultra-Star which will keep a longer and smoother glide. Although the Frisbee is designed for super straight throuws the Ultra-Star can maintain a straight line just as well and for a longer distance. Another difference you may feel is the plastic. The plastic used to construct the Ultra-Star is very easy to grip and maintains its grip even in when wet which makes ultimate games possible in various weather conditions.
